inspired by the distinguished fellow citizen
It is dedicated to its most illustrious fellow citizen, the Borgo Film Fest – Frank Capra Award to be held in Bisacquino from Thursday, June 20 to Sunday, June 23. The brilliant Hollywood director, a storyteller of the American dream, was born right here, on May 18, back in 1897, and from here he left, like so many other emigrants, for the States.
The festival, this year in its first edition, was conceived by Elena Costa, founder of the film production company Sicily Entertainment Srl, which is based right in Bisacquino and creator of a town itinerary that tells the story of her illustrious countryman; she is also the festival’s artistic director, which she shares with Noemi Mendolia and Domenico Pampinella. Shorts, documentaries and screenplays will compete for the Frank Capra Award, which will be presented during the Borgo Film Fest grand gala to be held June 23 in Piazza Triona.
The program includes meetings with authors, guests, conferences and also a masterclass with Palermo-based director Daniele Ciprì.
The Borgo Film Fest – Frank Capra Award, a festival of film tourism in the villages, aims to consolidate the synergy that exists between cinema and, precisely, tourism; its distinctive point is the valorization of the native director of Bisacquino: the genius loci Frank Capra. This dimension is integrated organically within a broader urban regeneration project, helping to preserve and enhance local history.
Funded by the European Union, the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Bisacquino, as part of the “Bisacquino Borgo del Cinema e delle Arti” project of Pnrr Investment 2.1 – Attractiveness of Historic Villages – Local Project for Cultural and Social Regeneration of Small Historic Villages, the festival will also be an opportunity to visit the small Sicilian village in the Palermo area.
Wandering around its alleys plastered with posters reproducing the posters of the great director’s masterpiece films along the urban trail dedicated to him, visitors and fans will be able to retrace the story of Frank Capra, see his birthplace and even read his birth certificate.
Also dedicated to Frank Capra is a section of the civic museum that collects documents and memorabilia, displayed in a large space designed as a screening room. A journey through time, in stages that stitch together the history of the village, cinema and the story of the emigration of Sicilians on their long journey to the United States and a better and more prosperous life.
