Hadrian’s Palace – 06 January

A vulata d’a palumma

The Latin rite remembers the Adoration of Jesus by the Magi. In the Greek-Byzantine rite, the manifestation of Christ’s divinity is commemorated at his baptism in the Jordan River.

After the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, the faithful and Papas go to Umberto I Square, and the latter blesses the waters of the 1608 octagonal fountain. From the bell tower of the Maria SS. Assunta Church, a dove tied with a red ribbon, representing the Holy Spirit, then descends along a thread. At the end of the ceremony, blessed oranges are distributed.
