Aragon – March 29 to 31

Holy Week and Taganu Festival

From Good Friday with the traditional night procession, accompanied by the singing of “Vere Filius” fervently intoned by the faithful, to Resurrection Sunday which sees the encounter between Our Lady and Jesus revealing Himself to His mother and the apostles Peter and Paul: Easter in Aragon is a triumph of spirituality and tradition.

On these particular days, and only at this time, an ancient local dish is cooked specifically for the occasion: taganu. A delicacy to which the Taganu Festival of the same name is dedicated, which takes place during the Easter season. Made of pasta, meat and tuma, the typical Sicilian cheese, the dish in Aragonese homes is usually prepared on Saturdays, to be eaten on Easter Monday outings.

Taganu gets its name from the earthenware pan in which it is baked. If you have never tried it, it is one of those opportunities that foodies cannot miss.
