Patronal feast of St. Nicholas of Bari

The ritual food of the feast of St. Nicholas is “virgineddi,” fresh homemade pasta served in a vegetable soup that is promised to the saint in exchange for a pardon.

According to tradition, it should be prepared during one of the nine Wednesdays preceding the patronal feast, or on the day itself.

On Dec. 6, after the mass in honor of the saint celebrated by nine priests, so-called “panuzzi” in the shape of three balls are distributed to the faithful.

In the evening, the festival ends with the traditional procession.
